About the GBKC

The “Great Barrington Kennel Club” was founded in 1941 and is a member of the American Kennel Club AKC. www.akc.org
The Great Barrington Kennel Club (GBKC) is an organization founded to promote and encourage the breeding of pure-bred dogs for the sole purpose of improving the breeds in keeping with the particular breeds’ written standards, as well as to hold dog shows and obedience trials, matches, field trials, agility trials, and all performance events under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club.
GBKC Performance events are open to all dogs that are registered with the American Kennel Club or that have AKC Limited Registration, Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privileges (PAL/ILP), an AKC Canine Partners listing number or approved Foundation Stock Service (FSS) breeds are eligible to participate.
Dogs with a Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privileges (PAL/ILP) or an AKC Canine Partners listing number must be spayed or neutered in order to compete.
Barn Hunt trials are open to any dog registered with Barn Hunt, LLC.
GBKC is a supporter of and donates to worthwhile canine-related projects on both a local and national level. It is a member of the American Dog Owners Association and supports their various efforts on behalf of dogs and their owners.
GBKC holds its meetings the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of February, July and December when meetings are not generally held. The general meetings (when in person) begin at 7:00 P.M. at the Stockbridge Grange, Route 102 (Church Street) in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Programs held in conjunction with the meetings include guest speakers, demonstrations, films and panel discussions. The meetings are open to the general public. Membership is open to anyone meeting the requirements of GBKC. Members are required to subscribe and adhere to a written Code of Ethics.

GBKC ACTIVITIES
Great Barrington Kennel Club is involved in various community and dog-sport activities. GBKC dog/handler teams have earned titles and recognition for a variety of sports and activities. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to interact with our dogs and their people. GBKC members participate in Conformation, Scent Work/nose work, Barn Hunt, Hunting, SAR, FastCAT, Tracking, Lure Coursing, Trailing, Tricks, Obedience, Rally, and Herding, among others. We also demonstrate our commitment to community outreach by participating in parades and a variety of other community activities in which dogs can appropriately interact with the public. Several members are have certified Therapy Dogs who perform this valuable service in nursing homes, schools and also work with children. One of our member dogs even co-hosts her own Cable TV show (with her human, of course! Many member dogs are certified to have demonstrated good behavior in assorted situations bypassing their Canine Good Citizen, Farm Dog, Puppy class, and other socialization tests. GBKC donates money and equipment to various dog-related outreach programs both local and national organizations, as well as the Police K9 units.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
GBKC is currently offering handling classes at St. Helena's in Lenox, MA.
GBKC president handling her 5 month old Clumber Spaniel puppy, Ida, to member Gloria McKlay as judge.
